Vision

Love and Compassion Trust has always been a visionary of empowering the poverty-stricken, orphan and the homeless community. We just don’t work only with a passion but also with a vision to bring revolution in the lives of such people by providing access to basic education, medical help and by implementing life-uplifting programs that will enable them to lead a happy life. More than 60% of the population of the State of Tamilnadu live in villages where there is a great need for education and development. Many people in villages are forced to move to cities to earn for their livelihood. Due to the extreme condition of poverty prevailing in most of the villages, people find it hard to provide their children with proper education. This has laid the foundation for illiteracy and unemployment. Apart from knowing the statistics, what really matters is that, do we as fellow humans really want to make an impact in their lives by considering and acting upon the pressing need. And these days, the need has only gotten increasingly dominant and demands immediate measures to be taken.

PRESSING VISION & NEED

We have always responded to the destitute community when immediate measures were demanding. And this time it is a plea to build up a children’s home that would accommodate up to 100+ underprivileged children and provide them with food, clothing and education completely free of cost. And we have come up with a plan that would disengage the pressing need, called as PROJECT SHELTER.

ABOUT PROJECT SHELTER

PROJECT SHELTER aims at providing shelter, food and education for 100+ destitute children until they grow up to be the providers of their own family. We are in the process of purchasing a land measuring one-third of a hectare from a proposed locality in Tamil Nadu. When our team drafted this project and its expenses, it almost seemed impossible to look at the staggering amount of fund we need to pull in. But when we got a sight of our 25+ humble years, we didn’t lose our hope and decided to execute it. Primarily, an empty land has to be purchased averaging about 500,000 USD. After that, to construct a home for 100+ children with basic and essential facilities, it would cost around 450,000 USD. And finally, to support a child entirely for one month it would cost around 30 USD and for 100+ children it adds up to somewhere between 3,000 – 3,500 USD.

This project is in plans to be executed in a village from Kanchipuram (District of Tamil Nadu, India). The target population of the destitute community averages at 2850. The life aspects of the targeted people are listed out in per cent.

  • 80% serve as daily wagers

  • 70% are from the scheduled class
  • 50% live in small thatchedhouses
  • 30% live in rental houses
